Education Assistant

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This program has been reviewed and approved by The Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training BC, Canada

    This diploma program focuses on preparing graduates for a career as an Education Assistant. This program provides graduates with a solid theoretical and practical skillbased foundation enabling them to assist students who have been identified as having exceptional educational needs and/or having developmental disabilities. As a team member you will provide behavioral support, learning assistance, personal care while facilitating inclusion, open communication and social interaction.

    OVERVIEW

    Program Length*

    • Total 31 weeks – 800 Hours * (including practicum work experience)

    Practicum Work Experience (included)

    • Total 6 weeks – 160 hours

    Full Time

    • Instructional 25 hours a week
    • Practicum 30 hours a week

    * Program length does not include any academic break or holiday break

    Delivery Method

    • Blended Delivery: the program delivery is a combination of on-site and distance delivery.

    Credential Upon Graduation

    • Education Assistant Diploma

    Admission Requirements

    • High school graduate or equivalent or
    • Mature student status ( British Columbia 19 years old and plus)
    • Meet the College’s English Proficiency requirements by any one of the following options:
      • IELTS: 5.5 (or better) or
      • TOEFL (paper): 520 (or better) or
      • TOEFL (CBT): 190 (or etter) or
      • TOEFL (IBT): 70 (or better) or
      • Cambridge: FCE (or better) or
      • Intermediate (or better) Certificate from a Language Canada-accredited school
      • Pearson English Placement Test at the Intermediate level
      • Pass the College’s English Language Proficiency exam
      • Has earned a high school graduation diploma from a Canadian high school or earned a diploma from secondary school (or above) in a system in which English is the official language
    • 2 reference letters
    • Criminal Record Check
    • Immunization Report
